Wormux logoWormux is a turn-based combat game using cartoon various free software project mascots.

Each player controls the team of his choice (penguin, gnu, firefox, wilber,…) and must destroy his adversary using more or less casual weapons such as dynamite, RPG, baseball bats, teleportation, etc). The teams are styled after the mascots of various free software projects, such as GNU, Linux, FreeBSD, KDE, GIMP, OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Thunderbird, Suse, Workrave, NuFW, SPIP, and Bugzilla.

Several players can play together, typically each one using a team. The game can be played online if every player uses the same version of the game. There are 2 modes: private mode (one must provide opponents one’s address and port) and public mode (an index server will publish your game). Online games have been available since 0.8beta1.

As of 0.9.0, a CPU player can be selected, allowing to compete against computer-driven teams. The feature first appeared in 0.7.9 but was hidden due to its limited abilities.

Wormux 0.9.2 changelog:

  • The rope of grapple no longer gets stuck in ground.
  • Network games between specific computers which didn't work properly before should work now.
  • A bug has been fixed which prevented the Bugzilla team to have more then three players.
  • Poisoned characters die now when they have to less health.

Wormux is a free and an open source software game under GPL license. Wormux is available under Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, Maemo, Haiku, *BSD, but the latest version may not be available to all platform at the same time.
