These animals are collected from Kairei hydrothermal vent field, some two thousand meters under the Indian ocean. From 30th november 2009, the world first live exhibition is held in ENOSHIMA AQUARIUM (新江ノ島水族館 ) in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan.

The shrimp (Rimicaris kairei) is about 2 cm long. It was found living close to the hydrothermal vents in large number.

The star of the exhibition is the 4 cm long Scaly-foot gastropod (Crysomallon squamiferum ). The snail was discovered in 2001 by American researchers. The snail’s foot is armored with iron-mineral scales. It even responses to magnets. The Aquarium is hoping that low water temperature and low oxygen exhibition tank could keep the creatures alive as long as possible.

Since these creatures in exhibition are out of their natural environment, the exhibition could be very short. If interested, go and visit them as soon as possible.

[Updated: 07Dec 2009]

The Scaly-foot gastropod or Armored gastropod only survivied for a few days as expected. Specimen of the snail is on display until 31 Mar 2010. This is also a world’s first.

For the past 7 years, there has been eyewitness reports of kangaroos appearing in Mayama area, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.

Kahoku Online Network: In the beginning, local residents laughed it out thinking that those might be foxes. There have be 10 eyewitness reports, however nobody is able to capture the creature either alive or on camera.

Kangaroos are native to Australia. There are possibilities that somebody imported the animals without proper procedures.

So far, no human injuries or agricultural damages is reported.
