GNOME 2.30 Release

GNOME logoThe GNOME Project announced the release of GNOME 2.30, the latest version of the popular, multi-platform free desktop environment and of its developer platform.

GNOME 2.30 also marks the last major release in the GNOME 2.x.

New features and enhancements of the new release:

  • Nautilus, the GNOME File Manager
  • Empathy Instant Messenger
  • Easy Syncing with Tomboy, a desktop note-taking application with a wiki-like linking system
  • Manage Your Users Safely with GNOME System Tools
  • The Time Tracker applet, which helps you track your time and tasks
  • The Evince document viewer, document viewer for pdf, postscript, djvu, tiff and dvi, has improved printing support.
  • Epiphany web browser
  • and much more

Development doesn't stop with GNOME 2.30. Work has already begun on GNOME 3.0, due to be released exactly six months after 2.30.
