    • ]]>     Japan police believe internet cafes are breeding ground of criminal activities, they are considering making it a law to require internet cafes to check customers ID, make sure they are who they say they are ; and keeping customers personal information for 3 years.

    This plan will be submitted to congress as soon as next spring and might become a law next fiscal year.

    Under the proposal, internet cafes will be required to check personal identification of their customers such as driver’s license. Records of these ID check should be keep for 3 years. Customers who give out false name or address will be punishable by law.

    According to the police, there are 561 internet cafes in the metropolitan area at the end of August. Thirty eight percent of which currently conduct ID checks.
