Calenco V2 Final (and V2.0.1 Bugfix Release)

Calenco is an XML content management system that enables teams of writers, designers, to collaboratively produce rich documents like User Guides, Quality Procedures, Reference and Training Manuals, etc.

The previous major release was Calenco V 1.0b, released more than a year ago on 30 Mar 2010. The latest version is Calenco V2.0.1 release, which is a last minute bugfix release of the Calenco V2 Final.

Calenco V2 features:

  • Supports transformation of DocBook 5.0 and DocBook mini XML to PDF and HTML
  • Repository can hold various workspaces, each with content in various languages
  • Store content (text and images) in virtual classifications
  • Show tree of XML dependencies
  • Automatic versioning
  • Content preview in browser
  • Basic locking mechanism
  • Web 2.0 interactive interface
  • WebDAV interface
  • Administration interface to manage workspaces, users and rights
  • All features are available on a RestFul (Representational State Transfer) API (CalencoRestApi)

There are issues and limitations with this new release, they are listed in the release notes.

In a strict sense, Calenco is not a web CMS, it is not specifically designed for that and it lacks many features compared to specialized Web CMS like Joomla, Drupal. Calenco manages content as XML, reusable components. While Calenco could serve as a Web CMS, because Calenco can generate any format in the output.

Calenco is a free software licensed under the Affero General Public License (AGPL). It uses numerous freely available components particularly derived from the Apache foundation (Jackrabbit, FOP, etc.).
